4 apples (about 4 cups diced or sliced)
1/4 cup water
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup softened butter
How to Make It:
1.Heat the oven to 350° F. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.
2.Peel and core the apples and then slice into thin wedges. Alternatively, you may dice the apple.
3.Place the prepared apples in the prepared 2-quart baking dish. Add water.
4.Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter with your fingers or a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
5.Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples.
6.Bake the apple crunch in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is browned.
7.Serve apple crunch warm with ice cream, if desired.
Tips and Variations:
1.Replace the granulated sugar with packed light or dark brown sugar.
2.Reduce the sugar to about 3/4 cup, if desired.
